A lot of people will remember how the show ended, with the Bachelor getting married in the middle of the season and getting the ax.
But there are a lot of folks who don’t remember that the season was supposed to be a “survivor” season.
And it was.
The season had originally been called “The Bachelor” for the first six weeks, and the showrunners were hoping to get people to watch the show without knowing the winner.
The producers wanted to keep people in suspense, but some people who did get to see the final season were surprised at how much the show got worse as the season went along.
“The thing that we’ve always liked about it is that the audience doesn’t know the winner,” the showrunner of the original season, Rob Thomas, told Entertainment Weekly.
“They’re like, ‘Well, I’m going to get married and I’m in love and I want to go out with someone.’
They didn’t know they had to watch.”
Thomas added that the show “felt more real” when the Bachelor got the ax, and “we were able to get a lot more drama out of it.”
The show was set to end with the wedding, but it ended up getting canceled in early 2018 after Thomas decided to make the final two episodes of the show a two-part finale, in which the Bachelor and the Bachelor in Paradise go on a cruise together, before being married.
Thomas said he wasn’t really sure if the producers were going to have the option of ending the season with a “Survivivor”-style cliffhanger, but he did want the series to end on a happy note.
“We didn’t want to be like, I have to be the last person to say this, but we were hoping that people would see the end of the Bachelor franchise as a series finale,” Thomas said.
“It’s always going to be ‘The Bachelor’ if you’re watching the series.”
But, the series has since become a staple of the Emmy Awards, and it’s not a show that has been around forever.
In the wake of “The Bacheloretnt,” the reality competition series “The Ultimate Fighter” ended its two-year run, and last year, “Survive” winner Chris Benoit got a reality show, “Big Brother: Redemption Island.”
